Counselors

Each staff person hired will be responsible for supervising a cabin or unit of campers (ages 6 - 14), in addition to working in a camp program activity area. There are six activity areas (rifle range, waterfront, arts & crafts, land sports, archery, nature) plus the position of dishwasher for which counselors will be hired. Several activity areas require special training or certifications. Waterfront personnel must have Lifesaving Certification. Rifle Range personnel should have Firearm Safety Certification. First Aid Certification and CPR Certification are also recommended. It is helpful to list specific training or experience for the activity areas in which you wish to work.

Camp Esquagama is a residential camp. Staff will reside at Camp Monday - Friday from mid-June until mid-August. You must leave camp at close on Friday until the following Monday morning.

Camp Esquagama is a smoke-free, drug-free work environment. Tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs are not permitted. Also, a criminal and medical check will be conducted prior to hiring of all applicants.

Head Cook & Cook's Helper

Well-balanced, home-style cooking is served at Camp Esquagama. The position may require physical activity such as lifting and carrying weights of 20 lbs. or more. The HEAD COOK must have a Food Managers Certificate, plans all menus and orders groceries and supplies. The head cook prepares breakfast and lunch, serves these meals, cleans up after each meal and cleans the kitchen at the end of the workshift. This position begins at 6:00 a.m. and ends at approximately 2:00 p.m. or when work is completed for the day.

The Cook's helper assists the head cook with preparation for lunch and dinner. The COOK'S HELPER will serve and clean up dinner with the help of the dishwasher. The hours for this position are 10:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday and 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The camp week generally runs Monday morning through Friday afternoon, with some occasional weekend camps during the summer.

Program Director

The PROGRAM DIRECTOR is responsible for planning and conducting the camp program in cooperation with the camp staff. This person assists with camper registration on opening day of camp week, schedules program duties to counselors and acts as assistant director in the absence of the director. The program director resides at camp Monday - Friday the whole summer. Some occasional weekend camp sessions are held.


Maintenance

The position requires physical activity such as lifting and carrying weights of 20 lbs. or more. The maintenance person cuts grass, trims grass & brush, paints, repairs screens and windows, cuts and splits firewood, works in the camp garden, picks up gas and fills gas tanks on boat and pontoon boat, picks up supplies from town, washes and polishes vehicles, repairs minor plumbing problems, replaces burnt out light bulbs, and other miscellaneous repairs and jobs. The position begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at approximately 4:00 p.m. The camp generally runs Monday through Friday afternoon. Maintenance position requires a current driver's license. Lunch is provided by the camp.

Office Personnel

The duties of the OFFICE PERSONNEL may include answering the telephone, filing, registration of Camp Esquagama applicants, typing, registration on opening day of camp sessions, simple bookkeeping, reception, mail and other office related tasks. This position requires multi-tasking, and learning about the camp and its history. The hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 40 hours per week, with some occasional weekend time involved. Lunch is provided by the camp.

Counselor-in-training

This position is an unpaid position. Age qualification is 15 years old. A fee of $35, is charged for training during staff training week. You will be expected to come back to camp to work as a counselor-in-training during one week of our schedule.

Camp Director

Camp Esquagama is a residential camp for children ages 6 - 14. The camp week typically is from Monday - Friday. A staff of about 20 is employed for the entire summer.

The Camp Esquagama DIRECTOR will follow the recommendation of the Camp Board and will help the Board to hire staff and help plan and conduct staff training. Other responsibilities may include cleaning and preparing Camp Esquagama for the summer, supervising and assisting in camper registration, supervising and assisting staff in respective jobs, ordering of cleaning and recreational supplies, maintaining a safe camp environment, evaluation of staff, Camp Esquagama promotion, and other duties. The director will be required to learn about Camp Esquagama and its history.
